Located in the northeastern area of Connecticut and on the Massachusetts border, Woodstock is a rural area and is well situated to many cities and other areas of interest. A picturesque rural New England town dating back to 1686, the tranquil hilltop village has distant views to the north and over-looks rolling apple orchards and farms bordered by stone walls. Many of the elegant antique homes on the hilltop date from the early 1700's. The town is Connecticut's second largest community by area with a small but growing population. The town boasts its very own pink mansion - Roseland Cottage - a fabulous example of a gothic revival summer house. It is a National Historic Landmark, and is open to the public for guided tours. At the village crossroads are many quaint antique shops, charming boutiques, a café, and a real English tea shop serving delicious light lunches. Woodstock is a amazing place to live and work, as well as a great place to raise a family with its superb schools. Strong educational leadership and high potential exemplify the town's schools. Founded in 1801, Woodstock Academy is a non-selective, independent secondary school serving as a public high school for children from the following towns; Woodstock, Eastford, Union, Pomfret, Canterbury and Brooklyn. Governing the academy is a Board of Trustees with 35 members and also included in the academy is a variety of extra-curricular activities and interest groups. Woodstock takes pleasure in its effort to maintain the community's rural character. It has many beautiful nature walks, parks and two golf courses. A proud farming history has supported a popular annual agricultural fair held each year since 1860 at the fairgrounds. Every Labor Day weekend, one of the town's greatest attractions to Woodstock is the Annual Fair. It offers fun for every age and is also the second oldest fair in New England. There is a lot to offer here in the Quiet Corner of Connecticut!
