Community Information

Willington was established in 1727 as a calm agricultural town until the Industrial Revolution, when the waters of the Willimantic River became an imperative asset. The town's first large industry, a glass factory began operation in 1842, and Woolen Mills sprang up along side the river.

For the most part the town's industries have disappeared and many residents commute to town close by for their jobs. The major industries are agriculture, manufacturing of machined parts and electroplating.

Accenting Willington's strong beauty are colonial and contemporary homes. Many residents take pleasure in picturesque views of the charming hills. The Willington Recreation Area has open fields, a ball field and a pond for an assortment of outdoor pleasures.

Children attend the local schools through grade 8 in Willington. High school students attend Regional School District 19's E.O. Smith High School in close by Storrs (Mansfield).
