The pleasant colonial character of Wethersfield's early days is apparent in the outstanding number of preserved homes and buildings, predominantly in Old Wethersfield, a historic district of 17th and 18th century architecture. In town, there are four buildings that are considered historic landmarks on the National Register of Historic Places.
Wethersfield's residences consist of historic colonials and older homes, contemporary designs and new housing developments. Enhancing Wethersfield's appeal is its close proximity to Hartford for employment, shopping and entertainment, along with its prime location on the Connecticut River.
Outstanding recreational activities include tennis, ice skating, swimming and golf, as well as organized team sports and a summer day camp. Marine delights are at scenic Wethersfield Cove, a natural inlet on the Connecticut River. Heritage Way, a park developed in the 1990s, is a multi-use path that links Wethersfield's open areas and recreational facilities together.
Residents passionately support a modern school system, which includes five elementary schools, one middle school and one high school. There are also many preschools available. The Wethersfield Museum at the Keeney Memorial Cultural Center has rotating exhibits that highlight local and state history and is maintained by the Wethersfield Historical Society.
