Community Information

On the Massachusetts border, Union was one of the last towns to have settled in Connecticut. The town sits on mountainous and rocky land full of tremendous timber and a cluster of lakes, including the Mashapaug Pond. The lakes and pond structure the source of the Quinnipaug River.

The town of Union was incorporated in 1734. The principal businesses of Union remain those of its initial years: forestry, agriculture and charcoal manufacture.

Union is one of Connecticut's smallest and least densely populated towns, with just about 27 people per square mile. The town approximately covers 29 square miles.

Union's educational system offers programs for children through eighth grade in one building and high school students attend neighboring Stafford High School.
