Named after of Jonathan Trumbull, Connecticut's last colonial governor and its first state governor is the shoreline town of Trumbull. Although it was once a rural agricultural community today it is a thriving suburb. Trumbull still retains its colonial New England charms and with excellent municipal services, parks and urban amenities it is an attractive place for family life.
The quiet country atmosphere is carefully protected by the residents. Different architectural styles and sizes, including historic buildings, colonials, ranch and contemporary styles are well kept. The many neighborhoods are primarily made up of single family homes.
State of the art education programs together with fine area universities help high school students to achieve advanced placement. Schools that participate include the University of Connecticut and Sacred Heart University. A Young Scholar program from Fairfield University features Saturday cultural and educational sessions.
Public parks and over 1,600 acres of preserved land provide ample space for outdoor enjoyment. There are tennis courts, indoor and outdoor swimming pools and ponds, a BMX track, hiking trails, playgrounds and playing fields for team sports. The Tashua Recreation Center promotes a variety of athletic and social events. Golf is offered on private and public golf courses, including the 18-hole Tashua Knolls municipal course.
The annual arts festival and arts benefit ball and delightful outdoor concerts in the summertime are popular cultural and community points of interest. Residents also enjoy easy travel to metropolitan areas for entertainment and shopping.
