Community Information

Shelton, originally known as Huntington, in tribute to colonial Gov. Samuel Huntington, was renamed as it blossomed into a larger and more flourishing town. The Huntington area of modern Shelton retains much of the innate beauty and calm New England character of previous days, while welcoming the advantages of commercial development.

Shelton continues to cultivate new industrial and commercial growth. Attracting a great number of business enterprises is Shelton's immense land and closeness to major highways. Wiffle Ball Inc., maker of the original Wiffle Ball is located in Shelton, among many other diverse corporations. Prominent high technology and research firms are located in Commerce Park and Research Drive.

Residential areas benefit from the gorgeous and well-preserved areas of the town. Shelton includes neighborhoods of traditional single-family homes in a range of sizes and price levels, as well as charming condominium communities tucked tastefully into the landscape. Historic homes and a handsome town green are located in the Huntington area.

Motivating education programs serve the desires of public school students, and adults take pleasure in evening continuing education classes. Diverse material for all ages is available for all ages at the public library, as well as an arts council, which promotes culturally inspiring events. A farmers' market and veteran's memorial is also situated downtown.

Residents enjoy a great selection of recreational activities, including special recreation programs for every age. Indian Well State Park, 153 acres along the Housatonic River, is enjoyed by all nature enthusiasts, offering swimming, boating, fishing, hiking, picnicking and field sports. A sports complex and numerous private golf clubs round out the exhilarating sporting and leisure opportunities of Shelton.
