Community Information

Rising from the banks of the Naugatuck River, Naugatuck is a valley community.

Charles Goodyear an industrialist, in the beginning of the 1800s, put Naugatuck on the map as a core part for the production of chemicals and rubber and innovation. Naugatuck's vivacious industrial past attracted waves of immigrants, whose descendants remain in the community, providing Naugatuck with a rich and diverse heritage.

Renowned building designers, Henry Bacon, Stanford White and others, contributed to the community's cultural assets with their extraordinary architecture. The Town Library, schools and a train station combined historical museum, were structures all developed and designed by noteworthy architects commissioned by the community's early settled families.

Naugatuck's convenient location along Route 8 and close to Interstate 84 makes it an ideal and comfortable place for families. Naugatuck's neighborhoods are made up of pleasant Capes, expansive ranches and stately new construction on lots of all sizes and prices in a wide range. Also part of the diverse housing is apartments, condominiums and age-restricted housing.

Summer concerts are hosted on the town green. Recreational opportunities abound with youth athletics, a YMCA, a public golf course, playgrounds and parks.

Naugatuck's educational system includes 11 public schools and an adult education program. Post University, Naugatuck Valley Community College and the University of Connecticut Waterbury branch offer higher education opportunities in nearby Waterbury as well.
