Community Information

"A Small City with a Big Heart" is what Milford proudly calls itself. Sailboats, yachts and motorboats regularly drift in and out of the local harbor and a beautiful, expansive town green graces the town center.

Residential areas in Milford offer a variety of lifestyle choices. Victorian architecture and historic colonial homes sit side by side with sprawling contemporary structures and elegant waterfront properties. There are pleasant neighborhoods throughout town of modest single-family homes, new developments, apartment buildings and condominiums.

A popular destination for saltwater fun, Milford has multiple boat launches, marinas and city beaches. It is also home to many quality arts and crafts shows and festivals. Other popular destinations are the Silver Sands State Park and the Connecticut Audubon Coastal Center at Milford Point.

Located on an 8.4-acre barrier beach, the Smith-Hubbell Wildlife Refuge & Bird Sanctuary, next to the 840-acre Charles Wheeler Salt Marsh and Wildlife Management Area at the mouth of the Housatonic River. The Audubon Center provides unique hands-on environmental education and outdoor adventures for all ages. The Center features educational exhibits, a tide pool demonstration tank, 70-foot covered observation tower.

For recreational opportunities there are staffed playgrounds, ice rinks, a popular youth center, golf courses, a horseback riding academy and much more. The Great River Golf Club is a public eighteen hole par 72 golf course offering an indoor training facility, conference center, banquet accommodations, and corporate memberships. The Orchard's Located on an old apple orchard, this course is a public nine hole par 32 open April to October. The town's Tennis Club has six indoor courts.

For the children and young at heart, Smiles Entertainment Center is a year-round entertainment facility featuring a video arcade, kids kingdom and music atrium, skee ball, and pool. Seasonal activities include kiddie park, batting cages, bumper boats, midway games and miniature golf. The Ice Pavillion offers skate rentals, league play, and collegiate games.

The Marina at the riverfront downtown is a delightful place to watch the boats come and go, or take a walk along the docks. One of the most scenic and charming parts of the city.

During the Spring the Rose Garden blooms and is a wonderful place for pictures. The Summer Night by Harbor Lights is a special treat! Many new apartments and condos downtown are on the riverfront.

A diverse selection of manufacturing, retail, corporate, offices, light industries and investment firms all make their home in Milford. Milford Hospital, a full-service health center, serves the community. Shoppers find all they need or want in the many unique town shops, local plazas and large shopping malls, including the Westfield Mall - but everyone calls it the Connecticut Post Mall..

The town is home to several private schools, state-approved private schools for children with special needs and a state technical high school, in addition to its numerous and quality public schools.
