Nestled in the Farmington River Valley, Canton is a delightful country town . The center of town has cultural points of interest like specialty antiques shops and an art gallery in addition to the regular stores.

A repertory theater provides a forum for budding actors. The Art Guild exhibits the work of Canton's many local resident artists. At the southwestern tip of Canton, is a charming historical village called Collinsville. It is located in a wooded setting overlooking the Farmington River with spectacular examples of early Victorian architecture.

The town's school system emphasizes writing as a form of individual expression from an early age. Four schools make up the school system in Canton: kindergarten-third grade, fourth-sixth grade, a middle school and a high school.

The Roaring Brook Nature Center provides folk music programs, astronomy, and nature walks amon other outdoor recreation facilities. Horseback riding, hiking, swimming, tennis, team sports, skating and cross-country skiing are offered at the Mills Pond Recreation Area.
