For most of its early history Bolton was primarily a busy industrial center. Gristmills, saw mills, cider mills and agriculture made up most of Bolton's early economy.

Today Bolton is mainly a peaceful residential community. Vistas of open meadows and rolling hills have been carefully preserved and create an ideal setting for families. Charming neighborhoods of traditional homes, fine old farmhouses and pleasant condominiums dot the landscape.

The city of Hartford, a short distance away and nearby towns provide employment opportunities and cultural amenities. Bolton's school system has an excellent education program and modern facilities. In addition there are enriching adult education evening courses.

Outdoor recreation activities are available all year. Beautiful town parks offer youth athletic leagues, playgrounds and tennis courts. Bolton Lake at Indian Notch Park is open during the summer months and has swimming, a picnic area and pavilion, baseball field and basketball court.
