Community Information

Beacon Falls is almost 10 square miles and is located along the Naugatuck River in southwest Connecticut. Parts of Beacon Falls came from the neighboring towns of Naugatuck, Bethany, Seymour and Oxford. The first friction matches were made by Thomas Sanford in 1834 in Beacon Falls.

Surrounding Beacon Falls is a landscape of beautiful hills rising from the banks of the Naugatuck River. The town is easy to get to from route 8 and residents have only a short drive to the theater, playhouses, museums, and nature centers in nearby communities. For commuters, New Haven and the larger cities are easily accessible by train.

Proud of their town, many Beacon Falls residents are active in service to the community and volunteer civic activities. There are a wide assortment of housing options available including traditional single-family homes, brand new subdivisions, some apartments and delightful condominiums in a converted downtown mill.

Local treasures include the Naugatuck State Forest, which spans both sides of the spectacular Naugatuck River Scenic Gorge. There are several attractive town parks. The Pent Road Recreational Facility is an ample site for sports, with fields for baseball, basketball and soccer, tennis courts and a picnic pavilion. Exclusively for the enjoyment of local residents is Mathies Park which has over 350 acres for hiking, fishing, ice-skating and picnics.

Regional School District 16 is made up of Beacon Falls and Prospect. Both communities have elementary schools. Beacon Falls is home to a modern regional high school and Prospect has the elementary school.
