Westport offers the best of all worlds to its residents. Breathtaking oceanfront scenery on Long Island Sound, a charming country landscape, attractive amenities, an active downtown business district and nearby metropolitan centers attract families, executives and people from the creative arts.
Impressive waterfront properties grace the coastline while magnificent estates, country-houses and streamlined contemporaries dot the countryside.
In the summer, the Levitt Pavilion on the Saugatuck River features family concerts and performances, and the Westport Country Playhouse hosts professional touring companies in one of the finest regional theaters in Connecticut. It recently underwent a $30.6 million renovation, and now has a 578-seat theater space. The Westport Friends of Music perform chamber concerts in the autumn and winter, and the Green Farms Center for the Arts offers theater, music and art exhibits throughout the year.
Education in Westport also benefits from the generous support and involvement of residents. The public schools emphasize a strong academic curriculum, including both college preparatory and vocational pathways, and a broad spectrum of enrichment programs.
Westport's superb natural setting inspires a wealth of recreational activity and outdoor pleasure. Residents take advantage of the pristine beaches of Long Island Sound for many exciting water sports. Boating enthusiasts appreciate the fine marinas and private yachting clubs. Town-owned Long Shore Country Club and numerous private country and hunt clubs offer golf, tennis, swimming and social events for all ages. An active recreation commission oversees activities and facilities on over 200 acres of preserved land. Sherwood Island State Park features additional shoreline fun and excellent trails for hiking and nature study.
For commuters, the town has two Metro North Railroad stations. Interstate 95, the Merritt Parkway and the Boston Post Road cut through town. |
